For Christmas of 1998, I received from my parents a
really fun and useful gadget. It's called the
PalmPilot Professional.

This great little machine is much more than the
pocket organisers that I've had before. It's often
called a palmtop computer. The PalmPilot series has
been very successful thanks to its simplicity,
functionality, versatility, and low
battery consumption.

I carry my PalmPilot with me almost always. I've
really come to depend on it to keep organised. To
give you an idea of its uses, here are some
things that I do with it:

keep phone numbers and addresses
keep track of the Canadian dollar
organise events on a calendar
read weather forecasts
keep track of expenses
keep useful information
convert measurements
read and write e-mail
set reminder alarms
randomise numbers
make calculations
write class notes
keep a to-do list
draw and doodle
read webpages
jot down ideas
read the news

keep recepies
view pictures
keep poems
read stories
play games
keep jokes

It's probably the most useful gift I've ever received.

There are a few higher models that are even better
such as the Palm III, Palm IIIx, Palm V, and the brand
new Palm VII. Take a look at the Palm Computing
site to explore these fantastic pieces of
modern technology.

If you already own a Palm computer, you may be

Not long after I got my PalmPilot, I discovered
a very useful add-on -- LandWare's GoType!
keyboard. I find that it can be too slow and
tedious to enter text via the "Graffiti"
(handwriting recognition) system or the tiny
on-screen keyboard. I certainly wouldn't be able
to keep up with a lecture, for example. The
GoType! keyboard is a small and light and designed
for the PalmPilot. The cover flips open and becomes
a support and connector for the unit. Although
this keyboard takes a little getting used to, it's
an invaluable accessory if you want to enter more
than a few lines of text at a time. I keep it in my
backpack for all such occasions.
