I met
Charlene in autumn of 1993 while we were in
high school at Holy Heart of Mary Regional High.
We started going out on November 20th of that year.
When I moved to Ottawa in July of 1997, I had to
leave her in St. John's. Of course, it was very
difficult to live apart for several long months.
Fortunately, we were able to communicate almost
every day, and we even got to visit each other.
During one of those visits, when Charlene was in
Ottawa, we got engaged on December 16th, 1997.
Now we're together again as of May of 1999.
Charlene is sensitive but
cheerful. Those who don't
know her very well would be surprised to learn that
she can have bad moods from time to time like anyone
else. She tends to pay attention to the special little
things in life, and she brightens the day of those
around her with those simple pleasures. Although
she has a strong personality, she is easily hurt
and is sometimes somewhat too defensive.

Charlene
likes:
pop music
chocolate
dancing
reading
bagels
dogs
Charlene dislikes:
rude people
criticism
alcohol
losing
bugs

Being from somewhat different
linguistic backgrounds,
Charlene and I often notice differences in our
vocabulary or pronunciation. From having observed
her speech habits, I have compiled a
list of words
and expressions that she uses that I do not, and of
differences in usage and pronunciation.
